Esther Sullivan

Associate Professor in Sociology

Esther Sullivan is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Colorado Denver. Her research focuses on poverty, spatial inequality, legal regulation, housing, and the built environment, with a special interest in both forced and voluntary residential mobility. She was named a CU Denver Chancellor’s Urban Engaged Scholar, which recognizes “outstanding contributions to the Denver metro region through community-engaged scholarship.”

In 2019, Esther Sullivan authored Manufactured Insecurity: Mobile Home Parks and Americans' Tenuous Right to Place, which won the 2019 Robert Park Award from the American Sociological Association. Manufactured Insecurity examines the social, legal, geospatial, and market forces that intersect to create housing insecurity for an entire class of low-income residents in U.S. manufactured home parks.
