City of Denver Community Engagement Study Report

Improving Community Engagement and Constituent Services: A Study conducted for the City of Denver Office of Human Rights and Community Partnerships

In a recent study backed by the Agency of Human Rights and Community Partnerships and the Mayor’s Office of the City of Denver, the CCRC supported Dr. Carrie Makarewicz and CU Denver College of Architecture and Planning graduate students to investigate the city’s community engagement practices. Conducted from July 2022 through August 2023, the study employed a comprehensive range of methods to thoroughly assess existing systems and explore the most effective recommendations within the available resources and timeframe. The overarching goal of this study was to craft actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing how the City and County of Denver engage with their communities. The vision was to uncover opportunities for programmatic and structural improvements in community engagement practices, with the final report set to provide a roadmap for city agencies. This roadmap is designed to elevate the community’s understanding of city government and foster stronger partnerships in policymaking and programming.
